3 out of 5 stars A Nice Idea, But Somewhat Fails During Use
Ctwink

I'm a big gamer on both the PC and console units so I know a little bit about game controllers. The SteelSeries Stratus Wireless Gaming Controller for iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch certainly LOOKS like a standard multi-functional controller and there are a lot of things to like here.1) Typical to -It has A/B/X/Y buttons, two thumb joysticks, and directional pad, four trigger buttons (R1/R2/L1/L2) on the front of the controller, as well as pause and power buttons. The buttons all push down very easily and firmly and I like that the four shoulder buttons are textured so that your fingers don't slip and are sensitive enough that you can easily play games with out being so overly sensitive that a finger twitch makes you jump off a cliff or something. Although the controller is pretty small, it fits easily in the palm of my hand, it isn't overly small (and I have long fingers). Finally SteelSeries gives you a very nice smoked-plastic hard cover to protext the buttons on the joystick while its stowed away in a drawer or your backpack.Syncing the unit was very easy. Simply go into the Bluetooth section of your iPad/iPod/iPhone menu, turn the Stratus Gaming Controller on and push the sync button on the back and it will show up on the wireless equipment menu for you to turn on. Charging is also very easy as it has a micro-USB port on the bottom of the controller and the unit has four LED lights showing its charge. I fully charged the unit and then played games for an hour and it still showed 4 lights. As far as games that are supported by the Stratus Wireless Gaming Controller, I count about 150 apps inclusing Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, The Walking Dead, Sonic, Pacman (and other classic Namco games), Call of Duty, C.H.A.O.S, Galaxy on Fire 2, and other.Read more ›

5 out of 5 stars Now that bugs are fixed it's a great controller
Lon J. Seidman

I am revising my review and rating this much higher now that a button delay issue has been addressed by Steelseries. The fix came in the form of a firmware update that can be downloaded from their site. More than likely all new units shipped will have this firmware installed but you'll want to make sure yours is up-to-date.It's nice to see an iOS 7 compatible game controller that interfaces via Bluetooth as many others are designed only to plug into an iPhone 5 or 5s. So I was excited to try out the Steelseries Stratus especially because I really like their other controller called the SteelSeries Free. The Free is compatible with the standard Bluetooth game controller format as well as iCade, but not with the new iOS 7 standard. The Stratus does work with iOS 7 but doesn't support the standards the Free supports. The Stratus is very small, so large hands might have a problem with it. The buttons, however, are well spaced and the controller is quite comfortable to play with despite its small size.My recommendation? If the size of the Stratus isn't an issue this is a great iOS controller that works across all iOS 7 devices. It's not inexpensive, however, so you may want to wait a bit for more choices to enter the marketplace which will eventually bring prices down.

5 out of 5 stars Just what I've been waiting for!

I got a lot of flack for my early review of the SteelSeries Free controller, which was the first generation of this controller. While the Free had many good qualities, it wasn't supported by most of the big name popular games that I liked to play, and it was pretty much blacklisted from anything Gameloft which included the bulk of my favorite games. The Stratus is all new with numerous improvements, but most importantly, it supports some of the very best games on the market today. Where I struggled to find a handful of games that would justify the hefty price tag of the Free, I was immediately stocked up on dozens of compatible games with the Stratus, including Final Fantasy 3, Oceanhorn, Ravensword 2, Terraria, Bard's Tale, Dungeon Hunter 4, Muffin Knight, Shantae, Real Racing 3, Asphalt 8, Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed, just to name a few of my favorites. And I already owned all of these! For those interested, I'll add more to this list at the bottom of my review so you can get more of an idea of what kinds of games with work with the Stratus right out of the box. This list is guaranteed to expand as more and more games are adding MFI controller support all the time and it's absolutely the future direction of iOS controller gaming, meaning more games will surely be made with native support in the months and years to come. The first time I was allowed to try this out (after my kids hijacked it for several hours to play their favorites) I hopped in the backseat and put my iPad Air in the mount in front of me. I pulled out my controller and in seconds I was playing Oceanhorn, running around killing baddies and completing quests. I can't express how much fun this is.Read more ›

5 out of 5 stars Works great for iPhone 5
gilberto almeida

It works perfect with iPhone, witch is why I bought it. It connects via blue tooth and there's no need for calibration, it is small but I had no problems using it.
