5 out of 5 stars The thinnest, best sounding, nice to hold protective case for the iPad
J. Russell
This is a great case for any iPad owner who needs or wants impact protection.I confirmed with GumDrop that the iPad 3 case is the iPad 2 case without any changes made. So you can buy this case for either model. It fits my iPad 3 perfectly and I am very pleased. My first out of the box reaction was the plastic seems cheap (until I tried the new Otterbox case, now it doesn't seem as cheap). The plastic fits on the front of the iPad and has a few places where it wraps around the iDevice, mainly the rear camera, headphone port, dock connector and the orientation/mute switch. The plastic piece holds the iPad very tightly. Next a rubber piece covers the back, sides, and most of the front bezel. Compared to the new Otterbox iProtection Defender Case this is one of the areas the GumDrop shines. This case feels great in your hands. Considering how tablets are meant to be held, this is very important. The rubber has a nice grippy feel with out being too sticky. The tire tread texture on the sides and back is addicting to hold with your hands. The home button is easy to find and press as well as the volume switches. The orientation lock switch is behind a flap so you have one extra step to use it. As far as style goes, I think the iPad looks good in this case and it is much thinner than the Otterbox or Survivor. As much as I love the naked iPad I need a protective case. I bought both the new Otterbox and GumDrop to try out. The Survivor was going to be my fall back if one of these two didn't work out. I have experience with the Survivor on my iPhone so I knew what to expect there. The Survivor is serious protection that I need for my phone but not so much with my iPad. With the Survivor your device is 100% sealed from dust.Read more ›
3 out of 5 stars Gumdrop Ipad3 military case: pros and cons
joe
I have the ipad3 version of this case, ordered direct from Gumdrop manufacturer website. The case shipped 3 days after I placed the order online. The packaging was labeled ipad2 but there was a sheet of paper in the box indicating this was the ipad3 version. It fits perfectly, as far as I can tell.I do agree with the first reviewer's comment regarding the built in screen protector. Particularly with white backgrounds, there is a slight but noticeable degradation of screen image quality (prism effect). Depending on your sensitivity regarding image quality, this may or may not be a significant issue for you. Perhaps this effect is more apparent on the new iPad vs the ipad2. Also, the screen protector does have some reflection glare that can be distracting, depending on the amount and angle of incident lighting. I am debating whether to remove the screen protector and replace it with a higher quality alternative. The built in screen protector is the only thing I do not like about this case and the reason for me giving it only 3 stars. The rubber and plastic components of the case are very high quality and I really like the one piece rubberized shell. It provides excellent protection of the iPad and makes it much easier to grab and carry. This case does add some weight to the ipad, so that is a factor to consider but I don't find it to be any problem. Also, with this case, there is no built in capacity to stand the iPad up at an angle on a desk, so you'll have to rig up your own base of some sort for angled viewing. There are clear plastic covers over both the front and rear camera lenses. I wonder if this causes any reduction in image quality for the 5 MP rear camera. In any event be sure you clean the lenses before putting the case on! Finally, all of the iPad control buttons remain fully usable with their rubberized coverings. In fact, the home button and volume controls seem even easier to use.
5 out of 5 stars Bought for my special needs son

We bought this based on another review, and so glad we did. My son who uses this has multiple neurological disorders that result in destructiveness and impulsiveness. His iPad has been awesome in helping with schoolwork and learning, and entertaining, but we were leery about him using such an expensive and portable piece of technology. This case has done a wonderful job of protecting his iPad. He even took it in the shower with him one time. I wouldn't recommend that, but his iPad is still working! It's been 10 months of daily use and sometimes abuse, and all is well. Would buy this case again and highly recommend it to others.
5 out of 5 stars Great Case!

I just received this Gumdrop Designer Series case for my daughter's iPad 2. This case is wonderful! I was looking for something very durable as my 2 year old is known to throw her sisters iPad on the floor! She will be getting an iPad for Christmas and I wanted to be sure it would be fully protected. So far this case seems to offer great protection for the iPad. It offers a snug fit, and ample protection. I really like that there is a screen cover for even more protection. This case is a must buy if you want to protect your iPad well. There are many nice color options too!
5 out of 5 stars Best iPad case for the money

Our family's has 4 Gumdrop cases--one for a Kindle Fire, one for a Nook Tablet and two for our iPads (iPad 2 & iPad4). We've used several of the usual starter cases, but after a friend recommended Gumdrop to us it's the only case we use. We have twin 6-year olds so all the tablets get a lot of use and go through a lot of unintentional drops. Not saying they get thrown down the stairs, but they have been dropped from table/bed height (landing flat and on corners) without missing a beat. The vital ports are easily accessible and the buttons seem easier to use than without a cover. When I picked up the new iPad a few weeks ago I wasn't sure if Gumdrop made a case to fit so we grabbed the Griffin Survivor series at Best Buy. I'm sure the Griffin case would protect the iPad, but the shell felt slippery and there was a rubber cover for the camera and speakers that you have to pop open and swivel out of the way to use them (and the speaker one kept falling off). After some looking on line we learned that the most recent iPad (what I call the iPad 4) has the exact same dimensions as the iPad 3 (since the iPad 4's "Lightning" power connector is smaller than the iPad 3 it's not a problem to access the power plug-in through the 30-pin silicone port cover). That meant we were able to return the Griffin and order a Gumdrop case after all. As a bonus, the Gumdrop case costs less than the Griffin. The case fits like a glove and the silicone outer cover is thick with a great texture, providing excellent grip and protection (especially in the corners). Because it's silicone it's easy to lean the tablet up against something and it won't slip or slide out of position. So far the polycarbonate screen protector has held up well to the abuse we dish out.Read more ›
