When I first got my iPad 2 as a birthday present I searched for days looking for a case that would seriously protect it. I looked at the otterbox case but it got pretty awful reviews so I ended up getting this one instead. It turned out to be a great purchase. It only took me a minute or two to put it on and it holds together very well. There's some slight squeaking of the plastic along the right side in one area on mine that occurs whenever you pick the iPad up but it doesn't really bother me. The only downside of this case, which some of the other reviews have pointed out, is that the silicon part covering the home button sticks occasionally. In order to make it click the actual home button again you have to pry that silicon piece up and then gently push it back in. Overall this isn't that big of a deal for me because it only sticks every now and again and it takes a whole of half a second to fix it but it is a slightly annoying occurrence for such an expensive case. It does add substantial weight but that kind of goes with this kind of case's territory. Even with its few problems it gives me piece of mind about potentially dropping it (even though I haven't do to the grippy covering) which is all I really wanted in an iPad case. Also, A+ for Gumdrop customer service. I sent them an email about the home button sticking and 10 minutes later they emailed me back. They're releasing a version 2 of this case that fixes the home button sticking issue, (on August 28th I believe), and are sending me one to replace the one I have.

I needed an iPad case that would stand up to abuse, and narrowed my choices to the Gumdrop Drop Tech and the Griffin Survivor cases.I bought both to test out, intending to return the weaker of the two. The poor reviews of the Otterbox for iPad 2 removed it from the shootout. Both feature rubber outers with flaps covering switches, dock and headphone jacks, a plastic core surrounded the iPad 2, and a integrated screen cover. They both cost about the same as time of writing ($50-60).Gumdrop Pros:Strong accessory flaps (dock, headphone, mute switch)functional tire texture on the back side allows you to hold on to it without slippageGumdrop Cons:several open ports (both cameras, microphone, speaker), making it not entirely water resistantnot a full poly carb shell, only frontno included accessory to stand it uprubber has no stick to it, it's smooth (it's up to the tire texture to give you grip)Griffin Survivor Pros:better water resistance (flaps cover everything except front facing camera)full poly carb shellRubber texture has more stick to itGriffin Survivor Cons:incredibly flimsy and weak accessory flapsincluded stand is flimsyWashes:Screen covers are about the same quality. The Gumdrop one is apparently user replaceable though.Front and back iPad protectionLooks (neither will win beauty contests)My choice:Gumdrop, even though it's probably a little less durable in extreme conditions. So why the Gumdrop when it's con list is longer than the Survivors? My biggest concern about the Survivor is that the flaps would eventually break, their linkages feel that weak. For everyday use, I think both would fare fine.

*We bought our first iPad2 last summer.. put walmart's finest portfolio case on it (should have known better, being a faithful otterbox consumer for my smartphones)..*Had to get our special needs daughter her own iPad2 after realizing the endless benefits/possibilities!*Ottetbox, BAD REVIEWS!! Will still trust them with my phones though..*Bought her the Pink (iPad2) gumdrop case..*Great protection/style/look!!! She Drops it ALL the time, NOT 1 ISSUE!!*On 3-10-12, picked up OUR iPad2 only to find that 2 of the corners must had met the ceramic tile!! Portfolio case left corners somewhat exposed..*Decided not to get glass replaced.. ($279 per Apple) luckily cracks in glass do not leave the black border.. (Leaving screen protector on to act as red-neck duct tape!!)*Bought the red/black (iPad2) gumdrop case.. Again, PERFECT CASE, PERFECT FIX!!*Instantly became the other kids' iPad2!! (dad knew 3rd gen coming soon!!)*Got 3rd gen..*Tried our existing case on it, snug yet PERFECT FIT!!*Ordered black/black (iPad2) gumdrop case..*Received 3-23-12..*Again, FITS (iPad3/3rd gen/New/whatever) and FITS GREAT!!*Don't waste your time waiting on (iPad3) version gumdrop case to be in stock.. I presume that they aren't going to change anything on the new case, except the model# !!*Order this one, protect that expensive appliance before your first DROP!!*Thank you to reviewers.. I always utilize them.. Trying to get better about leaving MY OWN review.. Try to be short and sweet..

The Gumdrop folks are all over the net talking about this thing, and hey, it really is a great case. Easy to hold onto, feels super solid and I have no doubt that it will protect my iPad. I have the "military" green model and I'm not 100% sure the extra $10 is worth it, but I'm very pleased overall and I did notice that there is a fabric "filter" over the speaker opening that should keep dust out as advertised. It's a rugged case, it will add bulk, but that's the name of the game in this type of case. Now there is going to be a ton of comparison to the Otterbox. For me the thing what pushes this case past theirs are the channels in the plastic part of the case to hold the rubber in place. I've had many of the Otterbox cases for my iPhones over the years and that has been my one gripe. I also really like the "snap-in" screen protector because it is easy to replace.Very good protection, the only thing I might add would be an actual cover of some sort for the screen that would protect it when not in use. Otterbox really got that part right.
