Belkin vs. Logitech? Get the Logitech!W.D. Anderson
I purchased this keyboard after having used a Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard for a few months. The two are essentially the only keyboards that hold your iPad in place without adding thickness with a case. Overall, the Belkin has some smart design ideas but it fails miserably when it comes to key size and layout. I'm returning this keyboard and keeping my Logitech.First, the good: there was a good deal of thought that went into making this keyboard a similar, but not derivative, competitor to the Logitech. The case is nice and sturdy, and the use of two separate slots to place your iPad at different angles is a nice idea. The rubber feet for the case is also a smart addition.The mechanics of the keys themselves are pretty good - they have a solid tactile feel, ample travel, and they're much quieter than the Logitech keys. The Logitech ultrathin keyboard tends to make high-pitch, tinny noises when typing as the small plastic keycaps move around their housing. The key presses on the Belkin generate the appropriate low-pitch "thud" akin to notebook keyboards.Finally, the magnet is much stronger than the Logitech - when the iPad is "closed" on the case, it won't slip out like it would when connected to the Logitech.So there are some good things to be said. But things fell apart as soon as I started typing. First, the Belkin keys are far smaller than they could be -- or should be. While well-spaced, the main keycaps are noticeably tinier than the Logitech. iPad keyboards are small due to the limited dimensions the iPad provides, but Logitech makes far better use of that cramped space than Belkin.Read more ›

I had the opportunity to review two nearly identical iPad Mini keyboards: This keyboard made by Belkin, and a Logitech one: Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Cover Mini for iPad mini - Black (920-005021)At first glance, both are very similar. They both attach with a magnet to the edge of your iPad Mini, and they both provide a well-designed slot to hold your Mini at an angle while you type. To stow the Mini, you just flip the Mini down and slide it into the magnetic clasp. They both pair and connect fine. Both have good feel, just the right amount of resistance and the clicking is noticeable but not too loud. Both generate the same amount of clicking noise.The first notable difference has to do with keyboard layout. Neither has standard key pitch. The Belkin's is a bit larger. Each has compromised to make the keys a bit bigger: The Belkin's omits the semicolon and apostrophe between the "L" and the "Enter" key, and the Logitech omits the Caps Lock key to the left (accessible using the blue "fn" button at the lower left). Since the Belkin's Amazon page doesn't have a straight-on view of the keyboard, I'll also mention that the "Delete" key on the Belkin is to the right of "P," not on the row above. (PC users: The Apple/Macintosh style "delete" key functions like "backspace" on PC keyboards and deletes text to the left of the cursor.) And finally, since there are fewer symbol keys to the right of the letters on the Belkin, if you find yourself regularly using these keys you will often be hunting for combo keypresses using the "Fn" key.Read more ›
Small Keys :( Well built :)Scott
I like the product and would recommend it over the competitors, but the 4 starts is due only to this problem of keys being too small when there is a keyboard (Logitech's), whose keys are larger.Here are the details of why?Cons: Keys are still too small. The cap locks key is so infrequently used, so why is it so big?! (Hello? too all vendors that make keyboards( redesign the keyboard layout in general!) Compared to Logitech keyboard these keys are smaller and sit higher (spacing between the keys is good), thus making typing slower because pressing the keys and locating the keys takes a little longer/practice (Okay, I know I am a hunt-and-peck keyboardist, but who isn't? A lot of people besides me, huh?). Is this a show stopper? I don't know. After all, the whole point is a good keyboard and to be used for typing right? But, the added bonus of a screen proctor, the upright screen positions, ability to position the iPad on the lap without hands, and it looks better in meeting rooms are added bonuses.Now on to the Pros:Keyboard: Extra keys, like the cut and paste and selected left\right are a nice bonus (But I would take larger keys instead). The typing is much quieter than Logitech, which is good for meetings.Attaching: Better than the Logitech because the magnetic hinge is static. Allowing for easier removal and does not slip around when in a bag or carrying, unlike the Logitech hinges causing the ipad to turn on/off to easily. This does not happen with Belkin keyboard.Weight: Great! Not noticeable heavier.Shape: Good design and not too bulky, but slightly thicker than Logitech.Durability: Yet to be seen, but it has handled well the past two weeks.
